Great value insurance
5G is now available across all phones, meaning you can now download, up to 3.5Gb per second (in ideal conditions).
All phones also get the A14 chip – the numbers are a little staggering. Within the chip there are 11.8 billion transistors, 6 CPU cores, 4 GPU cores which works out at 40% more than the iPhone 11.
Ultimately meaning the phone will be fast…very fast. The neural engine now has 16 cores (previously 8) which make it capable of 11 Trillion operations per second.
Apple claims it’s the fastest CPU in any smartphone in the world (date: 14/10/20).
All phones in the range have new glass, called Ceramic Shield, which, Apples says, has 4x better drop performance.
The iPhone 12 range
The iPhone range of phones includes; iPhone 12, iPhone 12 mini, the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max.
Wireless charging is now available across the range and Apple is bringing MagSafe, the charging unit, typically used for Macbooks to the iPhone 12 range.
iPhone 12
Across of iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini you have a choice of 5 colours; black, white, red, green and blue. You can see all those shades in the picture above. Whilst the screen size is the same, Apple claims the device is 11% thinner, 15% smaller and 16% thinner than the previous model.
The display is better also with 12x more pixels than the iPhone 11 all meaning better looking photos and sharper text. There is also improved water resistance upto – IP68 6m.
iPhone 12 Mini
The baby of the range and the cheapest model, the iPhone 12 mini has a 5.4” Super Retina XDR display, but has a smaller footprint than the iPhone 8. The mini comes with all the same features as the iPhone 12; 5G, Super Retina Display, Ceramic Shield, A14 Bionic Chip, dual camera system and MagSafe, but in a smaller form.
Apple claims it is the smallest, thinnest, lightest 5G phone in the world, at the time of going to press (14/10/20).
iPhone 12 Pro
The iPhone 12 Pro range of phones comes in 4 new finishes; silver, graphite, gold and Pacific blue and has a surgical grade stainless steel band.
The Pro models have similar features to the junior members of the range including; Water resistance to IP68 (upto 6 metres); ceramic glass, 5G and the A14 Bionic Chip
It’s the camera where you will find the difference between the models. It has;
- Wide camera with ƒ/1.6 aperture captures 27% more light.
- New 7‑element Wide lens for edge‑to‑edge sharpness.
- New OIS makes 5,000 adjustments per second.
iPhone 12 Pro uses a LiDAR scanner, similar to the technology that NASA uses to measure how long it takes light to reflect back from objects. This depth map of whatever space you’re in can then be used for ultra-fast and accurate AR apps.
iPhone 12 Pro Max
Step up again to the iPhone 12 Pro Max and you’ll find a longer better life with upto 20 hours of video playback instead of 17 hours in the other models.
