Is mobile phone insurance really worth it? In this article we highlight why the answer to that question is a resounding yes.

Mobile phones have become something of a necessity in modern life; however their value often leaves them prone to damage, loss and even being stolen, which can often cost you a lot of money, especially if you don’t have phone insurance.

If you have recently purchased a new phone, someone may have mentioned mobile phone insurance already. But you may be asking yourself, is it really worth it?

Do I need phone insurance?

Depending on the provider and the amount you choose to pay, many insurance policies, including ours, will often cover you for loss, theft and accidental damage. Some policies will also cover accessories, unauthorised payments, malicious damage, liquid damage and mechanical breakdown too.

So whether you’ve got an expensive phone, can’t afford to replace it if were to become lost or stolen, and like so many of us rely on it more than anything, or even if you’re simply a little accident-prone, you should certainly consider purchasing mobile phone insurance to ensure you’re fully covered should anything happen to your device.

Is phone insurance worth it?

If you want peace of mind if anything ever happens to your phone, then yes, phone insurance is worth it.

The mobile phones of today can be expensive, and if you’ve locked yourself into a long-term contract to pay for your handset, you’ll have to continue paying for the contract, even if you no longer have the phone in your possession due to unforeseen circumstances.

If you have a policy with a trustworthy provider, when the most unfortunate happens, the hassle and stress of getting your device replaced is removed. With the right policy, you can be with your replacement gadget in no time.

Whatever policy you choose, you must make sure it has all the cover you need. When looking to take out a policy, we recommend asking the following questions:

Can I get phone insurance and then claim?

You can only make a claim for damage, loss or theft that has occurred since you took out your policy, not before. There are also certain criteria you must meet in order to be eligible:

When choosing a policy with us, your phone must be less than 36 months old when you sign up for insurance. You must also be over the age of 18 too, and please note that we do not cover phones purchased second hand or bought outside the UK.

To make a claim, simply follow the instructions.

We also recommend checking if you’re already covered, for example, under your bank account or through your home insurance. If you’re already covered, it’s worth checking how much cover you have too, as these kinds of policies aren’t always as good as dedicated tech insurance policies.

What are the benefits of a phone insurance policy?

As well as having the peace of mind that you’re covered should the worst happen with your handset, with us, you’re insured from the moment you sign up. If you shop around you’ll notice that some providers have a waiting period of 14 days before you’ll be covered, but that’s not the case with us - perfect for the last-minute planners out there.

As well as this, it’s worth having a look at the terms and conditions of policies you’re considering taking out. Some will only let you make a couple of claims a year, whereas we don’t set a limit with our policies – another bit of good news if you’re a little accident prone when it comes to tech!
